Despite the rain, the Garneau Mixed Tennis Tournament was a success! Due to weather conditions the courts to start weren’t ideal for playing but due to the staff of the Garneau Tennis Club, Edmonton Tennis Community volunteers, and even some participants, were all able to play on Edmonton’s one and only clay courts. It was great to see familiar faces but we also saw some new faces. Someone’s first time going to an ETC tournament, said her co-worker told her about it after they played tennis together. Although this was a tournament, the atmosphere was cheerful and friendly making it easy for people to adapt to the new environment but still have a competitive edge to it for our more experienced players. It’s nice to hear of our community growing and we hope to reach new heights in the future!
Tennis in the summer can be weather dependent but the staff for Garneau Tennis Club was there to make sure the rain didn’t get us down! Participants were eager to get on the courts and play! Players were talking about the unique experience of playing on a clay court, finding that it allows for slower-paced rallies so they have more time to react for their next move.
Thank you to our generous sponsor, Wilson, for providing ETC with prizes for the tournament winners. As always thank you to our volunteers who helped organize the tournament and cook up some burgers and hotdogs on the grill!
