On Saturday, August 20, 43 children aged 6-15 braved the heat and participated in the 2022 EJTS Summer Tennis Cup at the Jasper Place tennis courts. The EJTS Cup is a tournament designed to offer players a positive, fun, and entry-level competition experience in a safe environment.
The EJTS Cup is an incredibly unique event, as it is the only tournament offered in Edmonton where players with minimal tennis experience can participate.
EJTS coaches introduced the players to tennis match play,
going over the rules of tennis and assisting with keeping
track of score. This helped to ensure that all kids could enjoy
their time at the EJTS Summer Tennis Cup, regardless of
tournament experience. Prizes were awarded to the winners
and those showing outstanding sportsmanship.
Carson Fiddyk, one of the EJTS coaches who helped at the
event, shared his thoughts on the importance of the EJTS Cup:
“Having participated in similar events to the EJTS Cup as
a kid, I understand the positive impact it has made on me.
Through competition, the kids not only get a enhance their
tennis skills, they also learn key life skills, such as how to deal with
pressure and how to be a good sport following a win or a
loss. Most importantly, I enjoyed watching the young athletes
have fun while playing our amazing sport.”
Indeed, the tough 30+ degree heat could not wipe the
smiles off of the players faces.
The effort of the players impressed Sonny Nguyen,
another EJTS coach who was at the event:
“It was spectacular seeing so many kids come out
and play! Win or lose, every kid came out of the
tournament a stronger player!”
In all, the EJTS Summer Tennis Cup was a resounding success, and it
cannot be overstated how well all of the children played. We at EJTS
are hopeful that future Tennis Cups are similarly amazing and well
attended.
EJTS would like to thank all parents for their continued support. In
addition, EJTS would like to acknowledge and appreciate our
partnerships with Wilson, Apollonia Dental Clinic, and Physical
Therapy Centres.
